In April, our partner Helen Naves participated in a meeting of working group V (“Insolvency”) on insolvency at the UNCITRAL (United Nations Commission on International Trade Law) as a representative of the NYSBA (New York State Bar Association).
The theme of the meeting was Insolvency Law, an area that assists individuals or companies whose debts exceed their ability to pay.
Created by the UN General Assembly in 1966, UNCITRAL was born from the recognition that the disparities that existed in the national legislations of international trade hindered the flow of imports and exports.
Thus, the commission has the role of reducing or eliminating these obstacles, modernizing and harmonizing the rules relating to international business.
